The Magic Guild: Another Dinner Interrupted...

Mia is past her due date.

It's getting to the point where she can hardly stand the waiting. Draco being home for his paternity leave has helped, but he's also quite anxious. He did, however, have a brilliant idea to relax tonight: a lovely dinner much like Valentine's.

And Mia could use the relaxing. She's been feeling off all day...

She nods against him and tries to breathe evenly. She sits on the edge of the bed, breathing easier as the contraction ends.

"This isn't as bad as I thought it would be," she tells him.

And then she remembers...

Oh yeah, she did wish for an easier labor, didn't she?

She smiles sheepishly and, to explain it, adds, "Guess he's finally making his grand entrance."

"See, he's our son, he just wanted to make it special." Draco leaned over to kiss her forehead. He knew his parents should be fetching Jessica soon on their way here.

In the meantime, he stroked her hair, and started to softly sing, 'Here comes the sun, do-doo-do-do. Here comes the sun.'

Granted he was slightly more partial to the Stones himself, but he liked some of their work well enough, and knows how much she loves their songs.

"I'm sorry we interrupted dinner again, though," she says, tilting her head up for a proper kiss.

But the singing just makes Mia laugh and she playfully pushes at him.

"No, that's too appropriate," she says. "Oh, but that does feel good. Could you please put my hair up?"

"We'll save the leftovers."

Draco then smirked before helping put her hair up, one of his hands lingering to rub the back of her neck.

"Made you laugh though."

"Good. Your cooking is too good to waste."

She hums a happy little "mmmm" to him in agreement as he rubs her neck.

A few moments later, the only sign she gives him of having a contraction is that her breathing's changed to her exercises. It's not long after that Jessica arrives.

"By the Goddess, your parents gave me a good fright," she says, pulling her hood down and putting her hair back as well. She begins to roll her sleeves as she asks, "What have I missed?"

"Well her water broke, I'm uh not sure how her contractions are," Draco explained to her.

A moment later, Narcissa swept in, eying her son's tense behavior and worry. "Draco, do keep calm. It's completely normal. Honestly." She had conjured up an overrobe to protect her clothes, and there was a tie securing her hair.

"Less than ten minutes apart," Mia answers when she can. "At regular intervals."

She gives Narcissa a smile when she comes in.

"Thank you for being here."

Lemia joins them shortly after.

"Oh Mia dear, I came as soon as I heard."

She leans over and gives Mia a kiss on her forehead.

Jessica goes to feel Mia's belly for the position of the baby and says, "I might have to do a more in depth exam."

The Guildmaster winces in anticipation of that.

"There's no way to avoid this hurting," she tells Draco. "Would all of you mind getting whatever Jessica needs? And maybe some ice chips?"

Draco sighed, he didn't like it, but it was necessary. He gave a kiss to Mia's forehead, and whispered reassurances to her before he stepped out to get supplies, along with their mothers.

He probably would have liked staying even less.

Almost just as soon as they're outside of the door, there's a yelp of pain from Mia, but it's brief.

"It's all right, Draco," Lemia says, putting a hand on her son-in-law's shoulder. "We know how strong Mia is. And we'll be back to her soon."

Lemia gathered some clean cloths and other supplies, quietly asking Narcissa for a helping hand in carrying things.

When they get back to the room, Mia's once again sitting up on the bed and Jessica says, with a smile, "We can probably expect the baby to be here later tonight."

"How soon? She's all right though?"

"A few hours yet," Jessica says. "I know you're both excited, but these things take some time. If it's any reassurance, she's probably been in labor for some of the day without knowing it, likely dismissing the little, regular contractions as something else."

Mia reaches to take Draco's hand.

"I'm fine, Beloved, but I feel somewhat restless."

"It's okay for her to be up and moving around a little as long as she doesn't overdo it," the priestess says as Mia moves to get up, hopefully with Draco's support. "Really, the gravity from being upright will be good for her and the baby, hopefully get things moving along more quickly."

Draco helped her up, making sure to support her so it was easy for Mia to walk around as she needed to.

She puts her arms around his neck to help support herself as well, making it more like a slow dance instead of a walk. She stops whenever she has a contraction and leans her head on his shoulder.

"Draco?" she whispers after one. "Draco, I know this might sound silly, but... Do you think I'll be able to do this? Be a mother, I mean? I..."

She softly laughs.

"I suddenly find myself nervous."

Draco had his arm around her, and rubbed her back a little.

"You'll be fine. I've seen how you are with other children. You'll be a great mum." He still thought she would be a better parent than him any day.

She gives him another small laugh, but this one is more of relief from what he's said.

And it wasn't much longer before she spent more time leaning on Draco than she did moving around, her breathing exercises forgotten as she panted through the progression of her labor.

Upon noticing this, Jessica asks, "Are the contractions starting to feel like they're running together? Hard to tell when one ends and another begins?"

Mia only responds with a nod.

"You're getting closer, then. It won't be long now."

Lemia moves over to join them, helping to support Mia back to the bed with one arm and wiping the sweat from her daughter's brow with a cool cloth.

"See almost there, love," Draco replied, holding her hand still. He might regret it later if he loses feeling in it, but for right now, trying to be supportive. Narcissa had stepped away for a moment to give Lucius an update.

She takes his hand and gives it a little squeeze just as she's back on the bed.

There's another brief exam and then more waiting, to Mia's current frustration.

But it's not too much longer before she starts telling Jessica, "I have to push."

"Hold off on that as long as you can," Jessica says back. "The baby will come soon enough, I promise."

"How much longer is she supposed to wait? It's been hours already."

"Better for her to wait than to hurt herself," Jessica replies. "Trust me when I say I know how frustrating it can be. But once I'm sure she's ready to push, it won't be long, it really won't."

It'll seem like a long time, but it won't be, not as long as they've spent already.

"In the meantime, just breathe," the priestess advises.

Mia tries to take that advise as Jessica checks.

"Draco," she says, her voice dry and lips chapped. "Ice?"

He grabbed a few ice chips and held them up to her mouth.

"Here. Just seemed like it would be about time already."

Jessica eyes Draco at his comment, but wisely keeps her mouth shut and doesn't go up there to thwap him on the head.

Mia holds some of the ice in her mouth and lets the rest melt on her lips, her breathing a little easier now that contractions are spacing out again.

"Soon, Jessica?" Mia pleads.

Another check, and the priestess says, "Yeah, soon. Need some help getting comfortable?"

Mia nods and moves to recline some, mostly on Draco.

Lemia's on her other side to hold her hand, but she's also reaching to help hold back her daughter's leg, just behind the knee.

"Does that help some?" Lemia asks, and Mia replies with another nod, reaching to take more ice chips from Draco.

Draco made an exasperated sigh only for his mother to cut him off with a glare, "Really Draco, if you had any idea how long *you* took to come into the world...well clearly the child must take after you."

He immediately shut up at that, and gave Mia more ice chips.

Mia laughs a little breathlessly at that after the ice chips have melted, but Jessica doesn't hold back with her laughter.

Once she calms down, she says to Mia, "Okay, you can push."

Mia lets go of Draco's hand to help hold her other leg back and leans forward to push.

"Good, Mia, you're doing good," Jess says in encouragement.

And this repeats for a few contractions, until at one point Mia tilts her head back and cries out.

Jess reassures her with, "It's okay; the baby's head is crowning."

Draco remained silent, while his mother helped assist as well.

There really isn't much to say to that, is there?

Mia continues to push, moaning after each one at the stinging pain.

Though it's still not as bad as it could have been, and Jess points that out by saying, "You know, I think Mia's the quietest woman in labor I've ever seen," and punctuating that with a soft chuckle.

A few more pushes and Mia's back to panting while Jessica says, "Baby's head is out. You're almost done, hun."
