One door with a magic circle later, Mia and Marc are in the Magic Guild of Vane, quite specifically the hallway of her quarters of the Magic Guild Mansion.
"I'm sorry for how some of it looks. There are still a few repairs to be done since the city fell," she says, leading him down the hall.
There's a right down some stairs, another hallway, and a left before Mia stops at a grand pair of doors on the left.
"It might be a good idea for you to see where the party is going to be."

More so once they reach the huge doors.
"Oh, wow."
This being the first time he's been in an alternate universe, he's still wrapping his head around what his eyes are taking in.
But fear not, we swear he's paying attention.

She opens the huge doors, letting him look into the Grand Hall.
"Most events in Vane take place here. Recently, this is where my Guildmaster ceremony was held, just last summer."
Against the back wall is a tapestry with the Magic Guild's symbol, and there is a red carpet running down the center. The room is not really bare, but at the same time it clearly doesn't need much to make it anymore impressive than it is.
"Well, what do you think?"

His jaw only drops further once she opens the doors.
"It's huge! Oh my god! It's great!"

"I'm glad you approve. There's plenty of room to socialize, room we're going to need if practically everyone in Vane is coming, with enough space left for refreshments and a string quartet."
She looks at the symbol and the carpet.
"Draco doesn't care too much for the colors, but he's talked about charming them so that they go through a color-changing cycle. I think he can get away with it as long as he's clever about it."

The cogs are already turning.
"As long as the colours fit together."

A young man with a pompadour that has to be a crime against fashion looks through the doorway and says, "Mia, the candy you brought home for the party is terrible."
"You got into the Every Flavour Beans, didn't you?" she asks, covering her mouth so he doesn't see her smiling.
"They're not kidding," he replies sullenly. "I'm going to have sardine flavored candy stuck to my teeth until I brush."
There's a curious look from Mia to Marc, and the young man points at the newcomer.
"Nash, this is Marc St. James, he'll be helping arrange things so that the lot of us here don't have to. Marc, this is Nash Rumack, a friend and the city's current Premier."
Nash actually does a double take at the Premier line and quietly asks, "Really?"
From:

He doesn't ask 'What does a Premier do?' although it's on his mind. Better to be inconspicuous, and he's sure Mia will explain eventually.
Maybe.
From:

A pause, and Nash nods in understanding.
"Here, you can get one of those quills from where you got the beans," she adds.
"The quills?"
"They're sugar candy. That should help."
"Right. Thanks."
And Nash gives Marc a nod before leaving.
"He's still trying to get used to everything," she explains once he's gone.

A hopeful smile.
"He's getting better, though. Even gave me an engagement present."
She points out the door at another set of doors across the hall. Not as grandiose, but still exquisite.
"Did you want to see the tailor here so we could see about my dress?"

Everything is so darn pretty here.

What isn't new looks charred and almost crumpled. Even the Guild, on the outside, doesn't look nearly as nice as on the inside. Some homes are completely gone, their foundations the only evidence that any were there.
They've had a year to rebuild, and being magicians the means are easier in some ways, but the lacerations of war can still be seen.
What Marc will probably find the most unusual are two main things. First, there is a sudden drop around the entire city. Second, and probably more jarring, is what appears to be Earth in the sky, large and beautifully blue, but so far away.
Mia has walked to the intersection of the two main streets, from which everything branches off, and says, "The tailor is to the right from here, past the supply shop."

Of course, there's the inevitable intrusion of Captain Obvious with the thought, 'Something happened here,' but he's too well-mannered to ask what.
However, he doesn't take in Mia's last sentence at all, thanks to the earth drop and the actual planet quite visible in the sky.
".. This is a floating island? Thing?"

Finding it rather more prudent to keep his mouth shut, Marc follows after Mia, eyes still flickering around their surroundings.

There is an elderly woman straightening some robes on a rack nearby when she hears the bell attached to the door frame ring.
"Majesty Mia! It's an honor to see you back in my shop so soon. How can I help you today?"
She looks at Marc a little curiously. The woman has yet to meet Draco, so she doesn't know if this is him or not.
Mia gestures to Marc that he's welcome to tell the woman what they need.

Straightening up, he points a finger at Mia.
"First. We need her measured, if her chart isn't somewhere around here already. And is there a cloth selection I could look at?"

Behind the counter sits bolts of fabric from all over Lunar. Fine silks and satins, soft cottons and wools, even durable canvas, all in their natural colors. There are dyes on a nearby shelf and sitting on the counter is a list of spells that can be used to enchant any particular garment for people who, for example, need something fireproofed or water resistant.
She starts measuring Mia, taking notes on her parchment. After a while, she shakes her hands a bit in frustration.
"I'm sorry, dear," she apologizes to Mia, "but my bones aren't what they used to be."
"Do you have anything for it?" Mia replies.
"Yes, but I'll have to go to Dragonlight for some more."
"Dragonlight? That's Draco's shop."
"You mean that handsome young man who runs Dragonlight is your fiancé?" the woman asks, clearly thinking Mia has done well.

He stops momentarily as talk of Draco comes up, grinning at Mia from behind the woman.

"Clever man, finding a way to win your heart, Majesty," the woman says, finishing up her work. "So, what are we working on today? Surely not the wedding dress already, is it?"
"Just an engagement party for now, but Draco and I have been thinking about a summer wedding. Either next summer or the summer after, depending on how the planning goes."
She gives Marc a little nod before adding, "We'll let you know for certain by the end of winter."

"Got it. Any colours you'd prefer?"
From:

After all, she will be making sure that there will be pink for the wedding.
"If this is for the engagement party," the woman says, "Then it might be best to see what dresses I have already made. I can only work so fast, after all."
Like the fabrics, there are dresses of all sorts near the counter. Long styles, short styles, formal gowns, cocktail dresses, all waiting to be dyed and given their finishing touches.

"..I suppose I should wait till we have her measurements?"

Mia's looking at the both of them, wondering what she's gotten herself into.

He rattles on for a few more moments, scanning the measurement sheet.
".. And for colours, either a very light green, or something, um, forest-y. But not, you know, pea green."

"And she would look lovely in a strapless piece," the woman says. "And my vote is for a little above the floor."
She leads Mia back to a changing room and then looks for such a dress.
"Any other special requirements?" she adds. "There aren't any odd circumstances of the party, are there? Does it need to be fireproofed? Strong as chainmail?"
From:
no subject
"I'd really, really hope that neither of those two will be necessary."
From:
no subject
"Here, try this one, dear," the woman says, handing Mia a dress to try on.
There's a little pause while the woman is getting down what could be considered forest-y green dyes before Mia sheepishly calls from the room, "Could someone help me?"
Mia is venturing down an untrod path: the new and exciting world of strapless evening gowns.

Having been assigned to numerous fashion shoots, he can deal with this sort of thing.
He doesn't immediately go in, though. He has a sense of propriety.
"What do you need help with?"
From:
no subject
"You'll be fine, dear," the woman calls. "Just put it on like any dress, though you might need some help with the back."
Magic is a wonderful convenience in that it can come up with things like form fitting spells for their clothes without the pain of tight corsets.
So when Mia puts it on and fastens as much of the back as she can, she's a bit surprised to notice that she's...
Well...
...suitably perky.
