Lyton: A Hard Day's Work

The stay in Iluk was pretty peaceful, particularly since they waited until Mia and Draco left before starting their loud construction work. From there, they flew the magic carpet to Lyton, making a brief stop at the hot springs for rest.

Once they got closer to Lyton, Mia landed the carpet and handed Draco a pair of earplugs, saying, "You'll need these," before putting in her own.

Draco ruefully took them, and placed them in his ears. He then got out his wand, and his expression was masked to hide the trepidation.

Mia takes up the carpet and they walk into the village. Unfortunately, the earplugs couldn't block the sound completely, so strains of the cacophony made their way through.

She leads them through the village to the biggest house, where the village elder lived. Inside, they could take their earplugs out, the music still there but thankfully muffled.

"You are the ones from the Magic Guild?" the old man asks. "Oh yes, I remember you," he adds, looking at Mia. "You are friends with the boy with green eyes."

She nods.

"And who is this? The young man with eyes of grey?"

Draco nodded, knowing to be respectful here, "I'm Draco Malfoy, a pleasure and honor to meet you, sir."

"Will you be helping us with our problem, too?" he asks.

"I was going to take care of it myself," Mia says. "If you want to come along, Draco, you're welcome to, but there's a place set up for us to stay if you want to wait there."

Draco glanced at Mia, and then nodded, "I'm going along." He agreed to come along and do this, had to see it through now.

Mia blinks a little and asks, "You are?"

"Good," the elder says. "It's much safer with more than one person."

She smiles at Draco and says, "Well, I do feel safer."

Draco nodded, "I agreed to go with you, Mia. I have to."

Mia smiles even wider.

The elder smiles knowingly, recognizing the look Mia's giving Draco.

"If you two wouldn't mind?" he says, prompting them to go get the work done.

"Oh, right," Mia says, putting her earplugs back in and walking out, getting her staff out as she does.

Earplugs in, wand out, just in case, and Draco followed her out.

The people standing at the entrance of the cave nod them through the protective gates.

Mia leans close to Draco as they walk and says, "Watch your step in here. Some spots in the cave are weak and it's easy to fall-"

Well, what better way to warn a person than to serve as an example?

"-through!"

"Mia!" Draco tried to lunge forward and grab her at that.

She grabs back and pulls herself up, halfway out of the hole.

A little more pulling and she'll be fine.

Draco pulled her close to him to check her over for any injuries.

"You all right?"

Mia moves to stand up and nods.

"A little scraped up, but I should be fine."

She smiles a little.

"If you're that concerned about something like this, you better keep on your toes about monsters."

Speaking of which, the first ones were showing up. Giga ants this time, a variation of the antlion.

"These are stronger than the ones in Nanza, but I should be able to handle them. Anything you want to try against them?"

Thinking of the earlier spell, Draco considered them warily as he aimed his wand.

"Depends, do they not like fire or water, or neither?"

"Fire would be good," Mia says, moving into a firedancing pose and taking out one of the five with her hand, the flame summoned so suddenly it was practically spontaneous combustion.

Draco nodded, and took a few steps to the side so they would both have space.

He then aimed at one of the monsters.

Incendio! And flames shot out of the end of his wand.

And that takes out two more. The battle is over in a few moments.

"You're doing well," Mia says, brushing herself off and continuing through the cave.

Draco preened at that, "See, not completely useless."

"You never were," Mia says with a smile.

They go farther in the cave, running into a few more giga ants and then a few brain pickers.

"Got any shield spells?" she asks as she backs up a little from the brain pickers, preparing a stronger fire spell.

Draco nodded and got close to her, "I showed you, remember?"

!

And the Shield spell came up around them.

And that happened just in time, as the brain picker has just attacked.

Mia finishes her spell as quickly as she can and the brain picker are pierced with ice lances.

"At least we're making a lot of money off of this trip."

As soon as the brain picker bodies were gone, there were some fairly big piles of silver left in their wake.

Oooh money.


"Oooh!" Draco grinned at the piles of shiny.

"Well, get your cut," she says, getting her own money.

And things go on like this until they get to a pair of evil eyes. They look like giant, black eyeballs, but they sometimes glow with the appearance of eyes all over their bodies.

"Be careful, those are capable of paralyzing. Cast another protection spell."

She readies herself with her staff.

"Do you have your sword?"

They could reeeeeeeeeally use a sword around now.

Eurgh, not only were they scary looking, but really ugly too! Draco grimaced, and cast another Shield spell on them both.

He then warily replied with a pat to pommel of the handle of his.

"I do....why?"
