It was high time that Mia had a meeting with the Magic Guild council. But she wondered about their timing, since she was sure the council knew that Draco would be at his shop and that Nash was still working on the toaster project.
"Majesty Mia, so glad you could join us," the chairman of the council says, rising with the rest before everyone sits down together.
Everything is normal for a while: planning out classes, checking on progress in rebuilding, Lemia's continued recovery. Mia hardly had to do anything, simply oversee, take notes, make sure things are running smoothly.
Unfortunately, things come to a screeching halt with one sentence from one of the council.
"Majesty Mia, we're worried about you."
She lifts her head up with a curious "Hmm?"
"We have been for some time," the chairman admits.
"But why?"
"Majesty Mia, with all due respect, we have been concerned about your actions so soon after the war."
One council member stands, hands on the table.
"You've brought in outsiders from strange places, even married a man we know hardly anything about and gave him a potions shop. And you're still very trusting of Nash, though we all know his actions during the war. You honestly want to give both of these men positions of power in our city?"
Mia nods in understanding.
"This is why you are here to question," she tells them. "You're right, it's not something to take lightly, and I don't intend to."
"But it's not just that, Majesty Mia. You've taken Ghaleon's office and we've not seen some of his things. Do you think it wise to-?"
"An office is nothing more than a room," Mia replies. "A lute is nothing more than an instrument."
"But we don't want a repeat of what happened two years ago," the chairman sums up. "So we're keeping our watch on you, as well as Masters Draco and Nash. We won't allow any harm to come to Vane again. Are we clear, Majesty Mia?"
"Crystal," she says calmly before standing up. "And I do believe this meeting is adjourned."
"But Majesty-"
"If you've not discussed everything you wanted to say, then your timing was poor. Investigate me all you want; I've nothing to hide. Clearly, you do if you don't respect Draco and Nash enough to tell them this yourselves. So I find it only fair to tell them myself."
"Majesty Mia, they'll simply shield themselves from it."
"No. They won't. I won't let them. They don't have anything to hide, either, and you will learn soon enough that my faith in them is not misplaced."
